Best clean food .....for lunch and breakfast in St Auggie, and all the cities I travel to. The best and it is home made is their veggie burger, they know what they are doing so it is not mushy and spicy as all hell. The hash browns, which are really home fries are yummy ...salty and well done...awesomeness! They are cooked with oil but I can really overlook that here. The coffee is strong and fresh. Roasted locally and I think one of the best again... The spelt waffles are tasty light and much easier to deal with when you let the experts make them, instead of doing this at home...these are like home. The give you REAL maple syrup. No breakfast meats...which is SAD to me...boo hoo...but I can work through that cause the breakfast is so really yummy. If they had breakfast meats, I am sure they would be from a local source and very tasty but I have yet to find locally sourced breakfast meat unless you make the bacon yourself so I do not see that happening in the near future, I also think they have enough to do ...but anyhow...this is a must go to for clean cooked with love not chemical food. You also don't walk out feeling like you might explode.... They are in a un remarkable shopping plaza on SR 16, just a tad off Ponce , well worth the drive. They can get a little busy, just enjoy your tasty beverage and kick back. Oh yeah the chips are tasty, they hummus is very good, the tabouli is not oily or over whelming... Wish they had a weekly special.

I really enjoyed my carrot juice and breakfast burrito. Avocado, egg, goat cheese, sweet potato, yum!!! A/c on the freezing side so I'm glad I had a jacket.

We had very quick service. The staff was friendly and accommodating even though we arrived a few minutes before closing. We ordered a veggie burger, a noodle bowl, a veggie pizza, and a veggie wrap. Amazing vegan and vegetarian options. We ordered key lime pie and tofu chocolate pie. Both were great! Could have been a little larger, but what dessert couldn't be?

Diner low key ambiance with limited options for lunch and breakfast. Very vegan and gluten free friendly, the cashier's stand is laden with natural food supplements. Next to that is coolers full of natural soda, assorted juices, kombucha, and others. Big enough to sit over a dozen small parties of folk for a lunch crowd. A bit slow from the ordering to getting the food but they have a disclaimer of 'Please allow us 20 minutes...' etc etc. If I had to guess, they probably gotta grow and harvest all the sprouts that they put on everything. But hey, it was delicious and light fare. Plentiful portions and very satisfying. Had a deli turkey sandwich that came with (you guessed it) sprouts, plus a heaping portion of avocado and tomato. So packed full of goodies I had to use a fork, which was a common problem at the table for the others who got a Veggie Pita and Breakfast Burrito. All of these come with a side where you can choose from freshly made tabbouleh or hummus (plus other unimportant choices). Bonus: They have vegan Daiya cheese options for dairy sensitive folk plus gluten free bread or wraps.

Stopped by on our way out of St Augustine this morning. Another home run, courtesy of Yelp! Great local gem. Small, local place that focuses on organic and fresh food with options for vegan and gluten free. My wife and I both had the breakfast burritos, mine with eggs and hers with tofu instead. Both were awesome with great flavor and fresh veggies. Def will go back next time we're in St Augustine. Thanks to Yelp!

Looking for a satisfying breakfast or lunch that's flavorful and good for you? Well, you found it! The restaurant is quaint and personal, the server's even know your name. Chefs Cheryl and Mike know exactly what they are doing they have perfected the art of healthy eating and have combined flavors that keep you wanting more. The breakfast burrito with goat cheese is outstanding, pair that with an Apple bannana smoothie and you are set for the day. You must stop here if you come to St. Augustine.

Delicious and healthy, made with love, great service, great atmosphere... a must for anyone who enjoys good healthy food! We had the chicken salad sandwich the black beans and rice and a veggie omelet with home fries all I can highly recommend! :)

A gem hidden in a strip mall away from the touristy part of St. Augustine but well worth the short drive here for the amazing food. Our group of 4 stopped here for a late breakfast and ordered a range from fresh fruit juices, fried eggs, hash browns to scrambled tofu. Everything we had was flavorful and cooked with fresh, local ingredients which shows in the taste. The service is great and I also love the fact that their fresh fruit bowl is actually a bowl of local, organic freshly cut fruit which isn't the easiest thing to find in a restaurant these days. Great place and will be back when in the area again.

Looking for an "eggsciting" place to eat for brunch? Well, you have found it! The Manatee Cafe is a feast for the eyes and tummy. Inside the cafe you will find local art work that you can actually purchase, but more importantly you will find good stuff to eat, that is good for you :) Almost everyone at my table ordered the breakfast burrito, which I absolutely loved! I love my eggs with veggies and lots of flavor and this was a an explosion of flavor for my tastebuds and most importantly filled my tummy and was satisfying but didn't make me feel bloated, because it was made with good for you ingredients too! I also had a banana/Apple smoothie , it was delicious however filling, so share it with your sweetie. I chose goat cheese for the burrito and dressed up my grits with butter and creamer, you can choose fruit or hash browns too :) My compliments to the chef and creators...The service was great too.

Excellent vegan choices, very fresh food, great service right off of 95 same exit as the shops at St. Augustine. Must visit, place is very busy at times but so worth the wait

Best breakfast ever. Fully natural favors with really taste of home made food. Best American coffee I have never drank, and I am foreigner. They got all the points...

My wife and I stopped by for lunch before a day trip into St Augustine. We split a breakfast pita sandwich and an order of french toast; OJ for drink. I was pleasantly surprised both by the unique combination of ingredients and delightful flavor of the breakfast pita. The french toast was also pretty good. The only reasons I am not giving a five-star rating are the ambiance and location. The lighting inside is a bit harsh, and the decor seems tired with an (poorly) overdone manatee theme. The cafe is located in a rundown strip mall with very low-rent shops nearby. On your drive into the plaza you should be promptly greeted by a waving homeless man in a wheelchair (that's how you know you are at the right place). But if you want a different spin on breakfast that is tasty, brave the environs and eat here.

Very good food. I ordered a veggie burger, best veggie burger till date.. Very nice people.

Came to this cafe for brunch with my family. The first thing I noticed was that the walls had been spackled...but hadn't been painted over (yet?). Who knows if it was just done. First impressions mean a lot so that didn't sit too well with me. Anyway, I ordered waffles with banana and walnuts and they were a little dry but good. service was decent, considering how busy it was. I don't think I will go back.

They have a lot of vegan and gluten free options and the food is okay. We went on a crowded morning and it took over and hour to get our food. The toys in the waiting area are disgustingly dirty.

What a great restaurant. The place exudes a community pride and it represents that with delicious, healthy food. I got the breakfast burrito, my lady got the waffles. The service was top notch, the food was also amazing! So delicious, hearty, and substantial. I'm not vegan/vegetarian but it was an inspiring meal! I'll be giving vegetarian more of a shot in the near future. There was also an impressive little organize market in the restaurant. This place is a great spot to check out regardless of dietary needs. The shopping center/strip mall makes it a strange location, but a real gem in St. A. Don't let the focus of the restaurant steer you away, try something new, you'll enjoy it! Yay Manatee cafe, also great art all over

Went with my family on our visit to St. Augustine. They're usually picky about food but we all agreed this place was absolutely delicious. I considered going again the same day, it was that good. My mom ordered the veggie wrap, which was delicious, while my sister and I split the veggie burger and pancakes. The pancakes were not the best, but they were still pretty good and I loved that they were made with whole grain spelt flour and that I was given a complimentary side of Earth Balance to sub for butter. I would probably get the waffles instead if I were to go again. The hash browns would be more appropriately named if they were called home fries (you can see them in some of the pictures included on here), but they are AMAZING: perfectly crispy, deliciously seasoned, yet not too greasy. They're quite possibly the best breakfast potatoes I've ever had. My sister's veggie burger was also very good. This place uses mostly organic ingredients and cooks fresh to order, and if you're looking for a healthier breakfast/lunch option in St. Augustine without sacrificing taste or versatility, I honestly don't know how you can do better than this place. I highly recommend it and definitely will return if I'm ever rolling through St. Augustine!

Fresh local food and organic choices shine at this long time St. Augustine establishment. Efficient service , decent prices and a welcoming environment lead to a wonderful dining experience. If you like healthy food and/or a non chain restaurant stop in here.

Wow! Amazing food here at Manatee Cafe. It's located in a strip mall off of State Rd 16, very easy to find. When you walk in the door it's a mix of manatee art and various other paintings. Very unique. Hot wife and I had the pleasure of eating there this morning and we're so glad we did. Hot wife had the bagel sandwich with hummus, which came loaded with hummus, sprouts, avocado, sweet potato mash and tomato on a sprouted whole grain bagel. She loved it. I had a bite and I agree. I had the breakfast burrito with tofu and hash browns. It was presented well, more like a taco then a burrito but that just left the opportunity to appreciate the ingredients. Both of us had coffee which was good. The hot sauce on the tables was amazing as well. Had some heat to it, and some sweetness as well. I think that has to do with the type of peppers in the area, which at this time the name eludes me. The service was great. While we were there dining several locals came in as well. The server knew them by name and each had their regular breakfasts. Manatee Cafe is a great restaurant with quality ingredients and care put into the dishes.

I adored this place. We tried the red zinger iced tea and both enjoyed it. The menu was loaded with organic and locally-sourced ingredients. I had the tofu scramble with hashbrowns (which are actually more like home fries) and my friend had the breakfast burrito. The potatoes were a little too salty.. but that's my one and only complaint. They had vegan chocolate pie, but someone else got the last piece, so I settled for a cookie. They have a few hard-to-find veggie grocery items like veg cream cheese, etc. Staff was friendly; location is lacking, but it's great inside. I really liked the colors and paintings. I wish I had longer to stay- I'd have come back here every day.

Found this little place on my travels. I ordered the breakfast burrito. At first impression, other than the tortilla, it didn't seem much like a typical burrito. But this contraption was hands down one of the best breakfast I ever had!! Amazing. And healthy (from the hearty breads used to the small things like the tortilla being wheat). The others with me made mention that their breakfasts were amazing as well

clean strip mall joint with über healthy deliciousness. fun decor, appropriate portions. point off for no decaf espresso and a mildly surly server.

I just love this place!! I never have to wait long to be seated or for my food to arrive! It's always spot on every time. The breakfast is just as good as the lunch! I have been coming here for years and I always tell everyone I know about this place! I have no complaints what so ever!!

I was at shopping at the St. Augustine Outlet and I wanted some juice. Whole Foods was too far but, I found a place called Manatee Cafe. Yelp has it rated 4.5/5 stars so that was a good sign. Then, I hit up their website. The Executive Chef attended Johnson and Wales Culinary School and worked at Disney....that was I all I needed to hear! Fruit bowl was amazeballs. There was Bananas, Kiwis, Apples, Oranges, Strawberries, Pineapples, Grapes, and Blueberries. This is what i'd want to be served if I was on a secluded island in paradise. I have tried the veggie fresh squeezed juice and you better be prepared cause it was an acquired taste....but I felt like I needed some healthiness ::shrugs Positive - -Super fresh organic ingredients -Cajun Chicken Pita is to die for! (Mix of white and dark chicken sautéed with onions, carrots, cabbage, tomato, sprouts and salsa served on pita with house dressing) -Cool blue walls and art -The presentation on the bananas with the french toast was beautiful, check out the pics Negative - -Service, stone faced rare smiles =( -Closed on New Years! I was devastated, but I understand =( If your St. Augustine this is spot to get a quick bite! I took a star away because the enthusiasm from the employees was lack luster.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Manatee Cafe! If you're looking for a healthy lunch or breakfast, this is is the place. My favorite is the veggie burger. It is out of this world!!!! And guilt free because it's nutritional. The combination salad is another excellent choice. All of their greens are fresh and tasteful. By far one of my favorite lunch places in St. Augustine, Florida.

I was starving and forgot to take pictures of our meals, but it was a great place to eat for breakfast. I got the tofu scramble and it was one of the best tofu scrambles I've eaten. It was an actual scramble and not tofu cubes. Plus, it had a lot of flavor! My husband got the breakfast burrito and that was delicious too! Great vegan vegetarian restaurant.

I can never get past the hummus pita with goat cheese. I love the dressing and the heavy handed garlic added. Not a great selection for kids unless they are great eaters!!!

  • Darren M.

Fantastic for the health nut and a good change of pace for those who are all meat and potatoes, great selection of vegatarian but they have eggs and chicken too. But the star of the table is the house made pepper sauce YUM and not killer spicy. Oh and don't forget your carrot juice.

It is the best local restaurant. I got a burrito breakfast. It's fresh and of course organic. The workers were so friendly and serving as well as served what I wanted. I'm going this place again when I'm in town!

Oh, YES! Heck, YES. How delighted was I to find out that St. Augustine boasts a dynamic and progressive dining option like the Manatee Cafe? VERY. As soon as we saw that they prepare their meals using only pure filtered water, source their food from certified organic companies whenever they can, and offer vegan and gluten-free options, our brunch option for Saturday was a no-brainer. Located in an obscure strip mall, the Manatee Cafe is a casual breakfast and lunch spot that supports the efforts to save the manatee from total extinction by contributing a portion of its proceeds to this very worthy cause. Dining for a cause y'all! We made it in around 11am, and the place was already packed so we had to wait around 10 minutes for a table to open up. During our dining experience, there was always a group or two waiting for a table so it appears the word is definitely out about this spot. I had a tough time choosing from the menu because I was curious to try several vegan dishes but I finally narrowed it down to the Vegetable Burrito ($8.75) which included a whole wheat tortilla, scrambled eggs OR tofu, hummus, cheese, sweet potato, onions, mushrooms, sprouts, avocado and salsa. You also get to enjoy a side item so I opted for the salad in lieu of the homefries or grits. Our server was helpful and delivered my kombucha quickly and our food came out in a jiffy. Prices were fair and our experience was solid. I would definitely come back here again if I happened to be in St. Augustine again. TIP: They offer carry-out here!

  • Tammera S.

Took mom here for her birthday. We had a small wait, because the place was packed. And I know why. The food was fresh, hot and plentiful! ! There was only two people waiting tables, but the service moved along. I had a hummus and tabouli sandwich, which was over stuffed and wonderful, Mom had a veggie omelette, wish was so stuffed with all kinds of veggies. . Almost too huge. Coffee was AWESOME. Our waiter, Jimmy, even sang happy birthday to mom. Made her feel very special. It seemed everyone that came in or who was waiting for a table, had a smile. We drive up from Daytona just to try this place. ( almost an hour drive). WILL COME AGAIN.

First of all, don't let the location in the middle of a strip mall fool you! This place is great and you will find very interesting things to eat. And it's named after manatees for goodness sakes, how can you turn down that? My experience here was for breakfast. I ordered the breakfast burrito. I wasn't quite sure what I was in for when I ordered it but I was extremely happy with what I got. This thing was packed with veggies of all different sorts: onions, sweet potatoes, carrots, sprouts, avocado, etc. It was loaded with taste and was a perfect portion size. This place also serves as a bit of a mini-market for organic goods. There is a cooler for dairy items and drinks and several shelves with other organic food items that you won't find at Publix. Wonderful place for breakfast, and since it's not downtown you don't have to fight all that traffic to find a decent parking spot.

  • Jessica W.

Excellent! Best veggie burger I have had! Friendly service. Reasonable prices. The hummus was a bit sweet, the waitress said they add a little maple syrup? New idea for me, but not unpleasant. Noodle bowl was perfect. my 5 yr old devoured the hash browns. Topped it all off with a super green and banana smoothie!

  • Brian W.

I've enjoyed every meal I've had here. Very good if you're into vegetarian food but the do have a few meat options. It tends to get crowded at lunchtime, so I often order to-go rather than chance waiting around for a table.

Review worthy, I've been vegan for five years and I've never had a tofu scramble so well cooked, as I did at Manatee Cafe. Passing through on vacation and luckily enough we stopped in. Easy to miss in it's small shopping center, but by chance you find it, stop in you won't be disappointed. This would be my go to place if I was a local!!

  • Marjorie S.

My husband and I were headed out of St. Augustine and wanted to stop somewhere for breakfast. We found this place and when we drove up, we were a little hesitant thinking that it only served vegan type food in a shopping plaza. The outside doesn't yell "Come on in". But, let me tell you, we were pleasantly surprised at this small dining establishment. Our breakfast veggie omelets were packed with good stuff like sweet potato, spinach, broccoli and cheese of our choice. Nothing overpowering at all. I got a fruit cup with bite-sized pieces of all kinds of fruit like kiwi, strawberry, blueberry, apples and oranges and some multi-grained bread that was very tasty. My husband opted for a side salad of mixed greens with this yummy mustard dressing. The coffee was fresh and robust, food freshly prepared and the price was reasonable. What a great selection this was. It was a little out of the ordinary which we like. So, if you are looking for just the right twist of different, this is definitely the place you should try. It might be one of St. Augustine's best little secrets.

I had a 2 egg omelette with spinach, mushrooms and goat cheese, a side of hash browns it was delicious!!!! We also had pancakes. People here are very friendly. Great local restaurant. Will definitely stop by again

Loved this place. Great selection of organic and vegetarian/vegan... I think they have a couple meat items as well though. Fair trade coffee! Had the grilled cheese with hummus, avocado and tomato and it was amazing. The tabouli is also super tasty. Very chill and no-frills environment with great food.

  • Snehal P.

The food lived up to the hype! My fiancée and I went there today and left feeling healthy and satisfied with our choices. I got a veggie omelet that was nothing like what I've had before-it came with sweet potato, kale, red cabbage among other ingredients...so good! And the carrot juice hit the spot. My fiancée got the vegetarian burrito which was also very good. I wish we lived in the area so that we could experience more of manatee cafe's yumminess! Great food and great service.

Very good food! Excellent vegan options & smoothies! Service was a little slow but the food was worth it! I had the breakfast burrito with tofu scramble, an apple & banana smoothie & my daughter had pancakes with fruit!

  • Ophelia B.

I had high expectations for the Manatee Café. The decor was so so. The staff was nice yet not so informative. I was given a recommendation yet not informed of how much it would be. I got billed for what looked like a $10 entrée for $20 - according to me and the group I ate with that day. Despite the confusion, I like how polite the customer service was - 4 stars. I have tasted more spectacular food and was not really awed by the menu or food I saw plated for my friends. Some had good food but not superb. If you want five star vegetarian or raw vegan food I recommend the Present Moment Café. I really wish I had a better experience in the Manatee Café.

We had a great breakfast! I had the Tofu Scramble and it was delicious. I am not a vegetarian --the food was very tasty! My son had the breakfast burrito and he inhaled it. Our family of five agreed it was a solid find! Thanks Yelpers!

We went for breakfast at 10:30 Sunday morning and were seated immediately. Service was fast and courteous. We ordered a tofu scramble and breakfast burrito. Both were excellent. Great first experience and we will definitely go back. Everyone there couldn't have been nicer.

Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday, around 1 pm. Was a little busy so I had to wait about 15 minutes, but that was fine. Wasn't sure what to expect in terms of good since the ambiance is a little lacking, but the fact that it was packed and people were waiting (other than me) kept me curious. Ordered egg salad on gluten free burrito tortilla with a salad. WOW! Seriously. I kept it simple since I wasn't sure how it might be, but I was honestly blown away. By egg salad wrap! Salad and dressing were amazing - and I'm a bit of a salad snob. Red zinger tea was good. Only small drawback was the service wasn't prompt or crisp. Not bad, just a little slow and disheveled. Maybe they were short handed that day, not sure. But all in all, a good experience and I will be back!

  • David H.

Great food, healthy and no one missed the meat! It was a bit hard to find off SR16 in a strip mall, but we were glad we did! We were in town for a wedding and needed to find a good breakfast after a few days of Cracker Barrel, etc. The Manatee Cafe fit the bill exactly. My wife had the veggie omelette, which she described as divine! I went with the more standard two eggs over easy and hash browns, which are really more like home fries, but are really flavorful, surprisingly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside! My only criticism is that they may be a bit over salted. Our 11 year old son was more than satisfied with the spelt pancakes. All in all, it rivaled our favorite breakfast spot here in North County San Diego, Ki's. Two thumbs up!

Unique local place with delicious, healthy food. Nice atmosphere as well. I live 3 hours away, and I'm often tempted to drive to St. Augustine just to eat at Manatee Cafe. Desperately wish there was a place like this where I live.

I had the tofu stir-fry, and it was amazing :) Very friendly staff, the red zinger iced tea is amaing! I had three glasses of it and they sent me home with a carry-out cup of it as well. If you are vegan or vegetarian, I highly recommended this restaurant.

  • AddyOO H.

This is MY breakfast (and now lunch, too) haunt. The breakfast burrito w/ tofu is phenomenal. So many healthy dishes. I've never been dissatisfied with any meal. Unlimited coffee, however the organic blend isn't equal to the food, but they offer soy and coconut milk for the coffee so I work it out. Update: I changed my rating to 5 stars cause it's really all about the food not the coffee. Everyone I bring here loves the food, even the non-veg lovers.

Great place to eat!! The chicken salad and veggie omelet were amazing!!! Food is very healthy and good for you. I wish there were manatee cafés everywhere!! Staff was very friendly, they recommended a great place for dinner!!

Say what!? Can vegan food taste this good? First time I tried it and loved it! Anytime I go back to St Augustine I'm coming back to his place for sure! The burrito was so tasty I ended up getting some spices to try to make it back at home...

Good vegetarian food. Great expresso and they offer non-dairy options for the latte. Not a lot of breakfast options, however, the veggie omelet was great!

When I travel I am always looking for places to eat that know what quality truly is. To me that represents fresh organic food. This place not only offer that but doesn't sacrifice the flavor. I had the veggie omelette no dairy with a salad with miso soup and ginger tea...yum! They offer organic olive oil, braggs vinegar, sea salt and organic pepper on the table too! If you don't understand what that all means this is still the place for you because its delicious!

Drove down from Jacksonville to meet up with friends in St Augustine. as we are all vegetarian thought this would be a cool place to check out. Staff is friendly and setting is laid back. Food choices were plentiful. Unfortunately flavor was lack luster. I had the pancakes, friends had breakfast burrito and home fries. Home fries were especially disappointing; salty and overcooked. While glad to see veggie options in northern florida, cheering for more memorable dinning experiences.

Visiting area for 1st time. We read favorable reviews and decided on lunch. We tried the Cajun chicken pita and veggie burger. Simply wonderful. I also went for a banana-apple smoothy, also excellent. Great prices, too. Good, friendly service. We will return, schedule permitting.

Don't worry, I had studied the take-out menu for this place since the beginning of my vacation several days ago. My sister and I had planned our weekend adventures around when we were going to come to this place for lunch. Arrived on a Sunday for a late lunch and the place was jamming-so, as a word to the wise, expect a wait on the weekends (Sunday at least). They said about 25-30 minutes, which was about accurate. It was a toss up between breakfast and lunch-the veggie scrambles and burrito plates looked interesting, but I was really in the mood for non-breakfast burrito and wound up ordering veggie burrito #2-black beans, rice sweet potato (which I was dubious about at first, but it fit in nicely mashed up inside), avocado and sprouts, inside a sprouted grain wrap. All wraps/sandwiches come with a side and I opted for the hash browns-just so you know these are actually cut up small potato wedges. However they were seasoned and crispy and completely amazing-I wanted to ask what was on them!! My sister got the scrambled egg breakfast burrito and they were very accomodating on holding the onions, etc. For the appetizer, we got the hummus and tabouli salad with chips. My sister never liked tabouli until she tried this one. Overall, it was pretty budget friendly-but hey I am from California, so $25 for tea, appetizer, and two burritos is down right a steal! Will definitely come back here whenever I am in town-in fact, I'd like to go back tomorrow!!

Amazing!!!!!!!!!! So happy to find this veg place :) I had the burrito #1 and substituted the mozzarella with vegan mozzarella. It had sweet potato, hummus, sprouts, veggies, avocado all on a thin toasted whole wheat tortilla. So gooooood. The red zinger tea is also a must try.My boyfriend who is an avid carnivore enjoyed his meal too! Plus he finished my burrito for me (it was really filling!) and said he would get that next time we came there.

For a special Saturday breakfast [burrito], we take our family of 6 to Manatee. It's a little pricey, but the breakfast burritos, especially when they have goat cheese, are an awesome late breakfast, and definitely hard to beat in St Augustine. Put some of the house hot sauce on the burrito and the amazing home-fries, and you're set. The kids split an order of pancakes, with bananas and nuts, which works well enough. The atmosphere is trying to be hip and cool, and a little St Augustine laid-back at the same time.

My wife and I have decided not to eat at any chain restaurants on our vacation, so we decided to stop here. Its worth the stop. The food was wonderful, and the service was great. I had the breakfast burrito, and my wife had spelt waffles.

Very healthy choices and friendly staff. Had the veggie burger, and it satisfying because all the ingredients were fresh. Definitely looking forward to try more of their menu items. Their iced tea was delicious and the tofu grilled cheese is my favorite

High priced vegetarian food with very small portions. The organic soda came in a can and the chai tea was a bigelow Chai tea bag. Skip this place if you can.

My Mom and I stopped here on our way to Orlando since I'm vegetarian and I was on the lookout for veggie restaurants via Yelp. The food was soooo good! I only wish I lived nearby so I could go back. I got the Cajun Tofu in a pita, and the nutritional yeast dressing with my salad, as well as the Miso soup. The Miso isn't the standard you come to expect from Sushi restaurants, but it's really good. My mom had issues with the dressings (she normally gets blue cheese, so vinaigrettes were a bit of a change for her), but the waiters were more than happy to let her try all of the different dressings they had to offer without charging her more. She had the tofu reuben and quite liked it (despite not being a huge tofu fan.) I'm also a fan of this place simply for the fact that they sell Synergy drinks!

I miss St. Augie so much, especially Manatee! This was my favorite breakfast spot, because the food is so good! Everyone always enjoys it -- even if the person isn't vegetarian, they always say how great the food is. They use fresh ingredients and have a knack for seasoning and combining food to it is never boring or bland. Good job guys!

This place is excellent. They have very inventive and and tasty food. Even if you are not a vegetarian you will probably love it!

This place is ridiculously good. I really need to find a place JUST like this in New York..everytime I'm in St. Aug, I haveee to come here! The prices are reasonable and they serve breakfast all day! Try the breakfast burrito or the hummus pita! Droooool

Oh, the Manatee Cafe. -Having breakfast ALL DAY will always give you a leg up in the competition in my book. haha :D This place is near and dear to my heart. I became a regular here a couple years ago (when I lived in St Augustine the first time) because of their Tofu Reuben. -Which might I add is the best I've had yet. I should also vouch for the veggie burger, which is unique and unlike any other I've had. But since my return to St Augustine I'veI became a regular breakfast patron, and ALWAYS get the Veggie Omelette with feta, it's perfect. Let's just say....sweet potato. MMM Though I can say I've had almost every item on the menu, and not been let down. I wish that their location was a little more central, or just had some more space because I think it could really flourish. Oh, and be aware that they close at 4.

Been eating here for almost 20 years. Even at the old location this joint rocks the food! We love the healthy and delicious food. Try the yeast dressing. Thanks Manatee!

HUGE FAN OF FOOD, APPALLED BY CO-OWNER BLANCA My 7.5 month pregnant wife and myself walked into the restaurant yesterday. There were no tables available and Blanca told us to wait about 5 minutes. No sooner did she say that then a table opened up and some more customers came in. She said that if we didn't give her our names that we would loose the table, even though we were two of now four people standing there. She was obviously stressed out and then started telling my wife and myself that she would "throw us out of the restaurant". I tried to be cordial and introduce myself and start over, but she wouldn't shake my hand and for the entire time that we were there, never one apology. The food is outstanding, but Blanca ruined my appetite and experience. One of the employees even told us that whenever she is there, everyone is walking on egg shells. She obviously has no clue how to treat customers or employees and I am at a loss for how she ended up as a co-owner of a restaurant.

I've been eating at Manatee for years, and not once have I been disappointed. I went through a vegetarian phase a while back and shortly came to my senses. This is one vegetarian restaurant that makes me second guess my decision. Their tofu Rueben sandwich is delicious. The spicy tofu pita (also available with chicken) is exceptional. Hands down one of my favorite dishes, which is offered all day, is the veggie omelet with hand cut hash browns and an apple banana smoothie. The omelet is like no other I've ever seen. In this little bundle of heaven is mashed sweet potatoes, cabbage, kale, squash, mushrooms, onions, carrots, and spinach. You get the choice of a cheese, I choose goat cheese because it's so creamy and tangy. You would think that the abundance of veggies would be too much for a breakfast plate, but they sautée them just until soft so they accompany the egg perfectly. And the potatoes are perfect. I don't know what they do to them, but they are crunchy bites of love. The person I was with ordered a bagel with cream cheese, tomato, sprouts, avocado and sweet potato. Again...phenomenal. I ate more of hers than I would like to admit, but I was definitely full until late afternoon. You can't go wrong! Unless you order their addictive hummus and expect a kiss later on that day. It's delicious as well but you will be sweating out garlic for days. Eat here now!

Friendly, cozy little joint with pretty delicious food. We were camping in St Augustine and had a tough time seeking out this unique spot for breakfast (thanks Yelp!) but we were glad we did. Healthy and delicious, for a great price.

I always stop by for a tofu Reuben and a red zinger iced tea. Always delicious, though I will forever miss the old location. The strip mall setting is inconvenient and soulless.

Zero stars for the level of service. But, they get an extra star for being a veg establishment. What can I say? Let's start with the good: I like the use of sweet potatoes in Mexican dishes. Nice touch. And since I love animals, I like the manatee motif. Manatees themselves also generally eat veg...pretty cool, eh? Now the bad: So my first visit was around 2 pm on a weekday. There were maybe 10 other customers so not too busy. I walked in and there was no one to greet me (bad). Then I stood there for about 30 seconds waiting. Still no sight of any workers. Then I picked up a menu and started looking. After about 2 more minutes, a guy came out and did not say "hi" or greet me. Rather, he walked to the cash register, without looking at me, and then said, "what can I get you?" I looked up from the menu and asked what's good. He said most things are good and then listlessly mentioned a couple of items, but did not point them out on the menu. I picked up his disinterested vibes and should have walked out then. But I decided to give them the benefit. I ordered my dish even gave them a tip when I paid for the food. I was not sure what I was going to get for my tip, but whatever...the item was not expensive. Then I went to find a seat. Being my first time, I strolled around to see the decor. Nice manatee references, by the way. Then another guy came over (much nicer) and explained that the tables were for dining-in customers and I said, yes, I am one. He then explained that since I ordered at the front, I was a take-out order, yes? I said no. So, then I realized that the first guy should have asked me if I was a take-away customer or dine-in (bad). So the nice guy brought my food and I would have left another tip in cash, but I had no money with me. Since I had already put a tip on the CC payment earlier, I did not feel so bad. So, I hope for this restaurant that this is an isolated employee. Maybe he was having a bad day? Even so, management deserves zero stars since they need to have much better control over their establishment. Once they get that control, I will consider raising my rating. What if I had been a secret shopper? (It always strikes me as amazing that in this age, with secret shoppers and video cameras and chances to review on sites like this, that people continue to provide terrible customer service. How do they expect to get away with it?) MY FOOD: The burrito was not actually closed so when I picked it up to eat with my hands, it all fell apart. It might be good to explain that this is not really a traditional burrito, but an open tortilla, folded over. If I had known that, I would have ordered something else. Even so, like I said earlier, the sweet potatoes inside added nicely to the flavor.

I can't believe no one has written yet about the glory of the Manatee Cafe. I know "healthy" is not usually synonymous with "delicious," but this place will turn your head around. Just about everything I've had there was fabulous: the veggie burrito, veggie/tofu scramble, bagel sandwiches, fresh juices, pancakes, veggie burger, the yummmy breakfast potatoes, the key lime pie, chocolate tofu pie (really) and the salad with the NUTRITIONAL YEAST DRESSING. YES!!!... i could go on. What was less than perfect? The tofu reuben (just a little strange), the pizza (some things can't be made healthy), and the noodle thing. But take my word, this place rocks. Eat at the Manatee.

My mother, who has been going here since I was very little, turned me on to this place several months ago after raving about it for years. At first glance, the colour scheme wouldn't be my first choice, but that really isn't a big deal at all, and the atmosphere was extremely friendly and laid back. What's really important is the food! I tried the Cajun Tofu pita, which was great. No matter how much you want to make it a sandwich, go for pita, since you need to contain the mountain of tasty filling! I even needed to eat some of it out with a fork (don't take that as a bad thing- you'll be happy they gave you so much). The flavour of the pita holds up well to the filling's heartiness, too. All in all, five stars for some great vegan/vegetarian-friendly food.

I wish I had known this place was vegetarian and I have to admit that I am not a vegetarian, but was with a group. Manatee was just fine for lunch, nothing more and nothing less. I had the Cajun Chicken Wrap and it was good, but small. And it came only with a small glob of hummus about the size of my thumb. Frankly, I am confused by the enthusiasm in other reviews.

This is a great Spot for Lunch, Located off of SR 16. Usually I have a wrap, or sandwich with a side Humus & Blue Chips. So many great places in and around town.

It's been years, but it seems to have lost some character in moving to strip mall locale. Decent veg options, but the menu is slight. I had the Tofu Reuben with goat cheese which was fine, but not spectacular. Liked the nutritional yeast dressing option for the salad. All the food was nice and fresh. Would like to see more than one type of sprouts offered if included in 95% of dishes. Also, fewer smoothies and more fresh juice options would make more sense for a sit down joint such as this.

I really like to try as many things as I can on a restaurant's menu before I write a full review of it. I can honestly say that The Manatee Cafe is one of the best restaurants I have ever dined at. My family originally chose this restaurant after researching Vegan friendly dining in the Saint Augustine area, and now after about 2 years, we come to the Manatee Cafe just about every time we are all here. My dad was recently here helping me move into my new apartment, and we ate here 4 days in a row. Each day the food got better and better. The fact that a local restaurant offers so many vegan options on its menu really shows how much the owners/chefs/staff care about their customers diets and lifestyles. I really love that almost everything on the menu can be made vegan on request. Especially the waffles: the vegan waffles with a fresh fruit mix and a perfectly-portioned cup of maple syrup makes for one delicious breakfast. Vegan breakfast can sometimes be hard to make, and doesn't always come out quite right, but the Manatee Cafe has perfected it. I left feeling satisfied, but not stuffed or full of regret. It was great. Their breakfast burrito is also fabulous, although make sure to note that their soy cheese is NOT vegan. This was a little disappointing, hopefully their will be some sort of vegan cheese option in the future :). Another one of my favorites is the hummus and tabouli salad, it has the perfect combination of garlicky hummus, grainy tabouli, and mashed sweet potatoes. It really comes together nicely. It also tastes great in the pita sandwich! Really, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My dad's personal favorite is the Miso noodle bowl (or something like that), although he also raves about the tuna sandwich. And the red zinger iced tea...GET IT. It's amazing! The bottom line is, The Manatee Cafe is a great place to eat. It can satisfy most palates, and the staff is extremely friendly. Be sure to check out their fridge in the front before you leave, because they have some really great products in there that they actually use in their recipes. And they've also started carrying Vegan Cheesecake in there as well. Let me tell you, this cheesecake is one of the most delicious things I have ever had the privilege of eating. It was like a slice of heaven in my mouth. Glorious. I can consider my life complete now that I have tasted this food of the gods. Sorry for the rant, but I SERIOUSLY love this place.

This place opened up a while back at a different location and their new one is just as nice. The food, amazing. I had the Tofu Rueben with taboulleh. It was absolutely wonderful. The waitstaff left ALOT to be desired...I was one person, and it took me more than a few minutes to be seated. I enjoyed the Red Zinger Iced teas as well!

Awesome vegetarian friendly restaurant. My wife is vegan and I am not, and this is one of the few places that caters to us both and succeeds! Whether for breakfast or lunch, you can not loose here. Beans, wraps, salads, burrito's... all are great. We travel 1.5 hrs just to eat here.
